My mom shared with me bellow legend from her home town

Long time ago at the north of this country there were two tribes that were enemies, one was in México and the other was in Flores Petén. A hansome prince of the México tribe saw a beautiful girl that belonged to Flores' tribe. She was the princess Zacnité, her father was the chief of the Flores tribe. The prince could not resist knowing her, he felt in love with her. The princess loved the handsome prince very much.
One day they decided to get marry against the will of their parents. When the princess father found that her daughter was loving the prince of the México tribe, he got up-set and he killed the princess accidently in the Petén Itza lake. Since the moment that Princess Zacnité died, legend said that some beautiful purple flowers came over the surface of the lake. If you take a tour in this lake, you will appreciate these purple flowers around the island.
